Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, known for his energetic and vibrant lifestyle, has revealed that he plays squash three times a week, keeping fit even at the age of 87.
Obasanjo shared this in a video posted by Noire TV on Friday, August 9, 2024, showcasing his dedication to maintaining an active lifestyle.
In the video, Obasanjo was seen briskly walking along a corridor with his hands clasped behind his back, heading towards an interview room.
A male companion, impressed by the former president’s agility, commented, “Old soldier never dies. Oh my goodness!” to which Obasanjo humorously responded, “They only fade away.”
During the brief exchange, Obasanjo mentioned, “I still play squash three times a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,” highlighting his commitment to regular exercise.
The video also featured another notable moment when political economist and former presidential candidate, Professor Pat Utomi, greeted Obasanjo with a remark that reflected his admiration for the elder statesman’s fitness.
“You are looking sporty again,” Utomi said, as if accustomed to Obasanjo’s active lifestyle.
Obasanjo’s physical fitness isn’t just limited to squash. Earlier in March 2024, a video of the former president went viral when he visited Abia State Governor Alex Otti. During the visit, Obasanjo briefly shook hands with the governor before hopping onto a treadmill in the gym. He was seen confidently holding onto the arms of the treadmill, swinging his legs, and then jumping off with ease.
In another instance from the recent video, a white man, whose identity remains unknown, eagerly approached Obasanjo for a selfie before the former president boarded his vehicle.
Despite his age, Obasanjo’s vigor was evident as he politely declined assistance with his brown leather bag, saying, “No. Leave it for me,” demonstrating his self-reliance.
