The FCT Police Command has denied allegations that its officers killed a teenager during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest in Abuja. The reports claimed that a yet-to-be-identified teenager was killed by police operatives in Kubwa on August 3rd.
Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Saturday, refuting the allegations. “Our operatives are not responsible for the killing of the teenager,” Adeh said. She explained that the officers deployed in the area were equipped only with anti-riot gear, which is not lethal.
Adeh further stated that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. “The Commissioner of Police has instructed a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the teenager’s death,” she said. She urged residents to assist the police by providing any information that could help with the investigation.
