Renowned Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has died at the age of 72. Onwenu collapsed on Tuesday after performing at a birthday party in Lagos and was later confirmed dead at Reddington Hospital on Victoria Island.
The news of her death was first reported by TheNiche, which quoted a witness from the party. “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today, and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it,” the witness said.
Onwenu’s family has officially confirmed her passing.
Onyeka Onwenu was a legendary figure in the Nigerian music and entertainment industry. She was known for her roles as a songwriter, singer, performer, broadcaster, and politician. Throughout her career, she made significant contributions to music and culture, earning widespread recognition and respect.
