Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked the ‘King Jesus’ Church off DBS Road in Delta State, killing two policemen and abducting Joan Onyemaechi, a prominent community leader known as Ada Anioma, in Asaba, the state capital. The incident took place on Tuesday evening.
According to witnesses, the heavily armed attackers stormed the church premises, targeting the security personnel. “Kidnappers went on the rampage at the King Jesus and I Church located off DBS Road in Asaba this evening (Tuesday). They killed two policemen who were providing security at the church,” a source told Daily Trust.
The assailants then seized Joan Onyemaechi, a notable figure in the community. “The kidnappers, heavily armed, stormed the church premises and opened fire on the policemen, killing them instantly. They then proceeded to abduct Ada Anioma, Joan Onyemaechi, a prominent member of the community,” the source added.

The motive behind the kidnapping remains unclear, but residents speculate it might be related to a ransom demand. Efforts to reach the police spokesperson in the state, SP Bright Edafe, were unsuccessful as his phone was not reachable at the time of reporting.
However, a senior police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident. “The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted victim. The authorities of the police have also increased security measures in the area to prevent further attacks,” he stated.
The attack has heightened concerns about security in the region, with residents calling for increased protection and swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
