Police in Lagos State have arrested a couple Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam who bought a two-month-old baby from a suspected human trafficker. The baby was rescued when the couple was holding the child’s naming ceremony.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, stated on Saturday that the Uwams paid N2,350,000 for the baby. They bought the child from Loretta Nelson, who had purchased the baby for N1,450,000 from Pastor Peter Udoh.
Hundeyin revealed that Pastor Udoh acquired the baby for N500,000 from another suspected trafficker, Gloria Sunday. Sunday allegedly stole the baby on July 11, 2024, leading the baby’s mother to report the incident to the police.
Hundeyin said, “Detectives swung into action which led to the arrest of Gloria Sunday who during interrogation confessed to selling the baby for N500,000 to one Pastor Peter Udoh.”

Nelson confessed to selling the baby to Mr. and Mrs. Uwam for N2,350,000. The Uwams were arrested during the naming ceremony of the stolen baby.
“Investigations have commenced and the suspects will be arraigned in court after the investigation,” Hundeyin added.
