President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, starting on August 14, 2024. This announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President, on his Facebook page.
Mrs. Walson-Jack will take over from Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, who will retire on August 13, 2024. The presidency expressed gratitude for Dr. Yemi-Esan’s service, acknowledging her contributions to the nation’s civil service.
Ngelale stated that the federal government expects Mrs. Walson-Jack to bring innovation to the civil service. “The president expects adherence to relevant rules and laws guiding the civil service,” he added.
Mrs. Walson-Jack, appointed as a Federal Permanent Secretary in 2017, has held positions in various ministries, including the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Federal Ministries of Power, Water Resources, and Sanitation. She was recently the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education.

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of integrity and adherence to civil service regulations in her new role. “President Tinubu tasks the incoming Head of Service to discharge her duties with innovative flair, integrity, and stringent adherence to the extant rules and regulations of the Civil Service of the Federation,” the statement read.
Mrs. Walson-Jack, a lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987, holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Lagos. She is married to Hon. Nimi Walson-Jack, a former General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association.
This appointment follows a series of other recent appointments by President Tinubu, including positions in the National Pension Commission and the Nigeria Port Authority.
