The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has advised Nigerians not to pay for electricity distribution equipment such as transformers, cables, or poles. NERC emphasized that these costs should be covered by the distribution companies, not consumers.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, along with a video on social media platform X, NERC stated, “Is your distribution company expecting you to buy transformers, cables, or poles? Don’t! It is the DisCo’s obligation, not yours!”

NERC urged consumers to report any attempts by distribution companies to coerce them into purchasing these materials or any delays in providing the necessary infrastructure.
“Report any coercion to purchase, or delays in providing these materials to NERC for prompt action,” the statement added.
To ensure quick response to such complaints, NERC has provided a dedicated email and phone number for reporting these issues: idn@nerc.gov.ng and 07074865354.
NERC assured the public that it would take immediate action upon receiving complaints.
