A 100-level female student from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), identified as Favour Okenyi, was found dead on Friday evening. Favour, who was studying medical laboratory science, went missing on Tuesday after attending her chemistry practical.
Her body was discovered at the back of the Eni-Njoku male hostel within the university premises. A video clip showing her body in what appeared to be a gutter has been circulating online. Some students discovered the lifeless body and filmed it, questioning the gender of the deceased.

The university’s spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the incident and expressed the institution’s shock. In a statement on Sunday, Omeaku said the university is working with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.
Omeaku said., “The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student.
“We implore anyone in possession of useful information that could aid in the investigation to kindly reach out to the university administration.”
