Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) have announced an increase in electricity tariffs for Band A customers. Starting July 1, Band A customers will see their tariffs rise from N206.80/kWh to N209.5/kWh.
The increase was confirmed by several DisCos on their X (formerly Twitter) accounts. Despite the increase, tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E will remain unchanged.
Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) informed customers of the new rates, emphasizing, “The guaranteed availability of a minimum of 20 hours per day still stands. The tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged.”

Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) also confirmed the change, stating, “The review is effective from 1st July 2024 and affects prepaid and postpaid customers. Kaduna Electric assures customers on its Band A feeders of the continued availability of 20-24 hours daily as stipulated in the service-based tariff regime.”
Ikeja Electricity (IE) and Abuja DisCo (ABEDC) posted similar announcements. Francis Agoha, Acting Managing Director of IBEDC, added, “This review has been duly approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).”
This increase follows an April directive from NERC to raise electricity tariffs. NERC Vice Chairman Musiliu Oseni noted that only 15% of consumers are affected by the hike. He explained that DisCos could increase prices to N225 per kilowatt-hour from N68. However, after backlash, DisCos announced a reduction in May, adjusting Band A tariffs to N206.80/kWh.
