Federal Government Launches Effective Schools Programme in 111 Schools

The Federal Government has officially launched the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Effective Schools Programme in 111 schools across Nigeria.

The announcement came during a meeting in Abuja on Monday, where officials from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs), Coordinating Directors, and Head Teachers gathered.

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, Executive Secretary of UBEC, who was represented by Professor Bala Zakari, Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), explained that the programme aims to tackle challenges in learning and address the issue of out-of-school children.

“The Effective Schools Programme is designed to improve learning outcomes and equip Nigerian children with the tools they need for modern education,” Zakari said.

The programme seeks to provide Nigerian children with better learning opportunities at the basic education level.

“We are committed to creating an environment where children can acquire 21st-century knowledge and skills,” Zakari stated.

The Effective Schools Programme will focus on maintaining high standards in educational programs.

“We aim to ensure that all educational activities meet minimum standards for effectiveness,” Zakari explained.

Also, the programme will work to improve the resources and routines for teaching and learning.

“Our goal is to optimize the potential of both teachers and learners in these schools,” Zakari added.

As part of the programme’s launch, UBEC has distributed instructional materials, provided tablets, and installed satellite-based learning equipment in the 111 schools.

“We have made significant progress by procuring and distributing necessary resources, training teachers in ICT pedagogy, and equipping schools with learning tools,” Zakari said.

Dr. Ossom Ossom, Director of Social Mobilisation at UBEC, emphasized the crucial role of head teachers in the success of the programme.

“Head teachers have a vital role in implementing this initiative and achieving its goals,” Ossom said in his welcome address.
