Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has boldly declared that Senator Ireti Kingibe will not return to the Senate in 2027.
Wike’s statement came in response to Kingibe’s criticism of his performance as FCT Minister. Kingibe had appeared on Arise TV, where she accused Wike of failing to address key issues in the FCT, including the lack of schools, hospitals, and potable water.
In a fiery rebuttal, Wike dismissed Kingibe’s claims and defended his record. “I heard someone on Arise TV this morning, and it is unfortunate that this person is a member of the National Assembly,” Wike said during the launch of the Mabushi Bus Terminal in Abuja. “I am proud of what we have achieved in the short time we have been in office. If people are praising us, then so be it. If you are unhappy about it, you can deal with it.”

Wike criticized Kingibe for not taking action on FCT’s problems during her time in office. “You say there are no hospitals and schools,” Wike said. “As a legislator, what have you done to improve these sectors? How many bills have you sponsored for education and health?”
Wike also warned Kingibe that she will face a tough challenge in the 2027 elections. “If you are so popular, come and run in 2027. We will make sure you don’t win,” he declared. “I am not afraid of anyone. This is my territory now, and we are not begging for anyone’s friendship.”
Wike further expressed confidence in the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “We have many friends and we do not need to beg for more,” Wike said. “If you are angry about the praise we receive, your blood pressure will rise because the praise will only increase.”
Wike’s comments underscore the ongoing tension between the FCT Minister and the FCT Senator as they prepare for future political battles.
