Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke has asked the court to stop his ex-wife, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from using his name after their marriage ended. He wants Diezani to go back to using her maiden name, Agama.
Madueke filed a petition in the Lagos High Court, explaining that Diezani’s use of his name poses a risk of legal and financial harm to him. He cited her ongoing criminal trials in Nigeria and the UK as reasons for his concern.
He requested that the court order Diezani to make public announcements in newspapers in both Nigeria and the UK about her name change.

Madueke and Diezani stopped living together in May 2015. In November 2021, Diezani filed for divorce in the Nassarawa State High Court, and their marriage was officially dissolved on April 13, 2022.
Madueke said Diezani’s continued use of his name is misleading the public and damaging his reputation. He pointed out that she faces public allegations of corruption and financial misconduct, which further complicates the situation.
Despite the divorce, Diezani still uses Madueke’s name, which falsely suggests they are still connected. Madueke’s lawyers sent her a letter on December 14, 2023, asking her to revert to her pre-marital name, Diezani Kogbeni Agama.
Madueke’s petition highlights the ongoing impact of Diezani’s actions on his reputation and seeks legal intervention to resolve the matter.
