In a tragic incident, multiple suicide attacks in Gwoza town, Borno State, have resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people and injuries to over 100 others. The Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed that the attacks targeted a wedding reception and a burial ceremony.
“The entire Gwoza council area is in mourning following multiple suicide attacks on our community,” Timta said. He explained that the first attack involved a woman who infiltrated a wedding reception with two children and detonated her explosive device, killing many people. Shortly after, another bomber attacked a nearby burial ceremony.
“As I am talking to you now, the third explosion just occurred a few minutes ago with more casualties,” Timta added. He noted that many of the injured have been evacuated to Maiduguri for medical treatment with military escort.
