Professor Yusuf Saidu, Vice Chancellor of Research and Development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, was tragically killed by bandits in Zamfara State. The incident occurred on Monday while he was on official duty traveling to Kaduna State.
Sources report that Professor Saidu and his driver were passing through Kucheri in a blue-colored Hilux vehicle when bandits, mistaking their car for a police vehicle, opened fire. Professor Saidu was killed instantly, and his driver sustained injuries.

The professor’s body was retrieved and buried on Tuesday according to Islamic rites.
A senior staff member of Usmanu Danfodiyo University expressed the deep sorrow felt by the academic community. “The academic community is in mourning as news of his death spreads. Professor Saidu was a visionary leader who played a crucial role in shaping the university’s research and development endeavors. His contributions will be deeply missed,” he said.
