A Police Inspector was allegedly killed by suspected naval officers in the Okokomaiko area of Ojo Local Government, Lagos State. The incident occurred while the Inspector and four of his colleagues were on routine patrol along Igbo-Elerin.
The trouble began when the policemen stopped a commercial motorcycle rider and his passenger for a traffic violation. The rider, dressed in civilian clothes, and his passenger, who claimed to be naval personnel, resisted arrest.
Eyewitness Shola Shodiya reported that the situation escalated into a heated argument and then a physical altercation between the policemen and the two men, who later turned out to be naval personnel.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident. He said, “A report was received at Okokomaiko Police Station around 4:30 pm on Saturday that policemen on patrol tried to impound a motorcycle riding against traffic at Beno filling station. The two men in civilian clothes, claiming to be naval officers, resisted arrest and confronted the policemen.”
Hundeyin added, “Other naval personnel in uniform arrived at the scene and joined the attack. One Inspector collapsed and was unconscious. The naval officers fled the scene. The Inspector was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead. His body has been taken to Idi-Araba Mortuary, Yaba, for an autopsy. An investigation is ongoing.”
