In a swift follow-up to a recent theft incident, two men were arrested attempting to sell stolen rams at the Gwagwalada Cattle Market in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This arrest comes just 48 hours after another duo was caught with three stolen cows in the Abaji Area Council.
Witness Shuaibu Ibrahim recounted that the suspects allegedly stole the rams from Alhaji Rabiu Usman, who had purchased them for the upcoming Eid el-Kabir celebrations. “Alhaji Rabiu is my friend. I went with him to Madalla last week where he purchased the two rams and brought them home. On Wednesday evening, he called to inform me that his rams had been stolen,” Ibrahim said.
Upon discovering the theft, Usman immediately alerted sellers at the Gwagwalada Cattle Market about the missing rams. Later that day, Usman received a call notifying him that two men had brought rams matching the description of the stolen animals to the market. “He rushed there and discovered that they were his rams,” Ibrahim added.
Local vigilantes were promptly alerted and took the suspects into custody. The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, has yet to confirm the incident officially.
This incident highlights ongoing issues with livestock theft in the region, underscoring the need for increased vigilance and security measures in local markets and communities
