The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received a staggering 14,000 petitions from the public over the past year, according to the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Speaking in Abuja during a courtesy visit by Dr. Charles Omini, the Special Envoy for West Africa, Olukoyede emphasized the Commission’s commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes to ensure good governance in Nigeria.

Olukoyede highlighted the importance of the EFCC’s efforts in ridding the country of corruption, stating, “What we are doing is about this country, there is nothing personal in it, we are passionate about giving Nigerians a taste of good governance for once in their lifetime.” He underscored the significance of the petitions received, emphasizing that they reflect public confidence in the EFCC’s credibility and integrity.

“Nigerians have no business being poor,” Olukoyede asserted, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s abundant resources and potential for economic prosperity. He stressed the need for accountability and proper resource management to elevate Nigeria’s status on the global stage.

Regarding the fight against corruption, Olukoyede emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “The war is winnable if all Nigerians come together and join hands with the EFCC to ensure good governance and a better country for all.” He urged collaboration and collective action to combat corruption effectively.

In response, Dr. Charles Omini commended the EFCC for its efforts in combating corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria. He pledged his team’s support in partnering with the EFCC to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of corruption and promote good governance at all levels.

“We are going to partner with you and make sure we take this crusade at every level to every Nigerian and beyond Nigeria,” Omini stated, emphasizing the importance of defending the rights of EFCC officers and personnel.

The visit culminated in the presentation of an award to Olukoyede by the group, underscoring their appreciation for the EFCC’s dedication to combating corruption and promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria.
