Kano Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has issued a stern warning that security forces will take decisive action to maintain order amid the ongoing emirate dispute.
At a press briefing at the Government House in Kano on Sunday night, Gumel disclosed that there is credible information indicating plans by miscreants to incite violence at key locations, including the House of Assembly.
“Anybody who wants to test the ground, the security has the capacity to deal with the miscreants. We have perfected plans to embark on serious patrols and detection on locations where we are informed the miscreants are hiding,” Gumel stated, emphasizing the readiness of security operatives to respond to any threats.
Gumel further revealed that various groups have been mobilized and paid to carry out attacks and disrupt the peace. But he assured that security operatives are prepared to handle such situations.
Gumel warned, “We are going to embark on a house-to-house search; anybody who feels he is stronger than the law should try it. Kano will remain safe and nobody can override the decision.”
The Commissioner also reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public order. “The issue of chieftaincy affairs has been perfected by the executive arm of government. We are standing by the law and we are strictly going to enforce the existing law,” he added.
This statement comes in the wake of heightened tensions following the dethronement of Aminu Ado-Bayero by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf on Thursday, and the subsequent reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano on Friday.
Gumel’s remarks highlight the determination of Kano’s security forces to ensure stability and prevent any attempts to undermine the authority and decisions of the government amid the emirate controversy.
