In a surprising move amidst the ongoing tension in Kano Emirate, top security chiefs in Kano State met with the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, at the mini palace in the Nasarawa area of the state capital.
The high-level meeting included the Police Commissioner, the Director of State Services (DSS), the Army Brigade Commander, and the NSCDC Commander.
This development follows the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf. Sanusi moved into the main palace at Kofar Kudu early on Saturday morning. However, Bayero returned to Kano shortly after and took up residence at the mini palace.
Governor Yusuf had ordered Bayero’s arrest, but the police chose to comply with an interim court order halting Sanusi’s reinstatement instead. This legal tension has added to the complex dynamics within the Kano Emirate.
Bayero appears to be receiving significant recognition from state authorities, marked by the special meeting with all top security chiefs in the state. The reasons for the meeting remain undisclosed at this time.
The situation in Kano remains fluid as both Sanusi and Bayero maintain their claims to the emirship. As tensions continue to mount, the involvement of security chiefs suggests a critical need to manage the potentially volatile situation in the state.
