The deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has spoken out for the first time since his dethronement as the 15th Emir of Kano State.
In his address, Bayero emphasized the importance of justice and urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
Speaking in his native language from a mini-palace, where he has been staying since his return to Kano, Bayero expressed his faith in the legal process and the rule of law. “I call on the people to remain law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of the legal process in this tussle,” he said.
Bayero highlighted the significance of Kano in the broader context of Nigeria, stressing the impact of stability in the state on the nation as a whole. “Kano is a very influential state in Nigeria. Whatever affects Kano affects Nigeria. May peace reign in Kano. We pray for Allah to bless Kano with responsible and just leaders,” he stated.
He reiterated his commitment to abide by the law and trust in the judicial system to deliver a fair outcome. “Justice is the way to go on every issue. There will be justice. Nobody is above the law. We will accept whatever the law says. I appreciate all the people who have shown concern. As I said, justice will take its course. We will keep on praying for peace in Kano State. May Allah the Almighty protect us,” Bayero added.
The former Emir returned to Kano early on Saturday, following his dethronement by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. His comments come amidst ongoing legal and political challenges surrounding the leadership of the Kano Emirate.
Bayero’s call for calm and adherence to the rule of law aims to mitigate tensions in the state as the legal proceedings unfold. His emphasis on justice and peace underscores his commitment to resolving the situation through lawful means and maintaining stability in Kano.
