Tobi Amusan achieves world's fastest 100m hurdles time

Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan has once again proven her prowess on the track by setting a world-leading record in the women’s 100m hurdles. Clocking in at 12.40 (0.9m/s), Amusan outpaced her competitors and secured a remarkable victory.

Despite a strong start by two-time world champion Danielle Williams, Amusan maintained her composure and surged ahead, clinching the win with an impressive display of speed and agility.

Reflecting on her performance, Amusan expressed her satisfaction, stating, “This is the healthiest I’ve been. It’s a pain-free season compared to other years.”

Acknowledging the challenges of the race, particularly her start, Amusan emphasized her determination to avoid disqualification, affirming, “I told myself: ‘I’m not getting a DQ today’.”

The Minister of Sports, John Enoh, took to social media to celebrate Amusan’s achievement, recognizing her outstanding performance and its significance ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“Take your flowers Tobi Amusan, you stormed to an emphatic win in the women’s 100m hurdles,” he wrote, highlighting her potential to lead Team Nigeria to success at the upcoming Games.
