Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has labelled the abduction of students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, as an act of internal sabotage, revealing that all CCTV cameras at the institution were switched off during the attack.
During a visit to the university campus to assess the security situation following the breach, Governor Ododo assured the safe return of the abducted students and pledged to implement all necessary measures to secure their release.
“It is our duty as a government to protect lives and property in all parts of the state. We are prepared to protect the students, and that is why we allowed them to stay on the campus,” Governor Ododo stated.
Expressing dismay at the security lapse, Ododo emphasized, “We installed CCTV cameras in all the classrooms and the entire perimeter of the university campus. Yet on the day of the attack, our investigation so far revealed that all the cameras were switched off, and this can only be attributed to sabotage by internal collaborators.”
Assuring the university community of concerted efforts to enhance security, Ododo vowed to reunite the abducted students with their families and friends. “All our students shall return safely, and the perpetrators shall be brought to book,” he affirmed.
Regarding ongoing rescue operations, Ododo disclosed plans for regular reviews as more information surfaces from the investigation. “What is most important now is how to rescue our students unhurt,” he emphasized.
Acknowledging the gallantry of security agencies in thwarting the attackers’ access to university hotels, Governor Ododo pledged unwavering commitment to preventing future attacks on the campus and elsewhere in the state.
The abduction of students from Confluence University of Science and Technology has sparked concerns over security measures and internal collaboration within the institution, prompting intensified efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and bring perpetrators to justice.
