Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, revealed his collaboration with the Federal Government to develop a ‘one-identity’ technological platform during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Gates emphasized the significance of this platform, stating that it would integrate diverse data and streamline various processes such as planning, security, and tax efficiency.
Gates highlighted the importance of the identity platform, named MOSIP, in ensuring that every Nigerian receives digital benefits. He expressed his commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digitization efforts and providing further assistance to the country. Gates stated, “We are working with Mr. Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, on digitization.”
The MOSIP ID technology, according to Gates, has the potential for broad applications across government payment programs, enhancing payment efficiency, bank account access, and facilitating tax collection. He projected that the benefits of this initiative would manifest over time, leading to increased financial inclusion and more effective government payment programs.
Gates expressed confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to manage and implement technological systems, citing the nation’s abundance of talented youths. He reiterated Microsoft’s commitment to providing support for Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
