The Nigerian Army’s Operation Safe Haven, a special task force, recently convened a crucial meeting with key stakeholders from Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
This meeting aimed to address the resurgence of criminal attacks that have afflicted the areas, leading to the loss of innocent lives. Held at the headquarters of the 3 Division Nigerian Army on April 24, 2024, the meeting was chaired by Major General A. E Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven.
Expressing his dismay over the repeated breaches of security, Major General Abubakar stressed the importance of adequately addressing the root causes of conflict in the region to prevent further breakdowns of law and order.

He urged stakeholders to support government and security agencies’ resettlement efforts, facilitating the return of displaced persons to their ancestral homes. According to a statement released via the Nigerian Army’s official handle, Abubakar emphasized the urgency of addressing conflict triggers to maintain peace.
“The commander expressed displeasure over the reoccurring breach of security, which has resulted in the death of innocent civilians,” the statement noted. “The commander reiterated the triggers of conflict on the Plateau, which he emphasised must be adequately addressed to prevent further breakdown of law and order.”
Additionally, Major General Abubakar disclosed that some perpetrators of recent attacks had been apprehended, with weapons and motorcycles recovered. He assured ongoing operations to bring the remaining culprits to justice, highlighting the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
Representing the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Muftwang, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ephraim Usman, acknowledged the erosion of trust among the people. He emphasized the need for government intervention to rebuild trust among the populace, underscoring the state’s commitment to policing and ensuring the safety of innocent citizens.
“The governor reiterated the government’s commitment to policing the state and making it safe for innocent citizens,” the statement added. Various stakeholders present at the meeting echoed the importance of genuine dialogue and forgiveness between warring parties to foster unity and allow the state to achieve economic prosperity.
The attendees included top government officials, religious and traditional leaders, youth leaders, and socio-cultural groups, collectively emphasizing the significance of collaboration and reconciliation in achieving lasting peace in the region.
