The Kaduna State House of Assembly has requested the financial records of the former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, spanning from 2015 to 2023, from the House StaAssemblytry of Finance.
This move involves a formal request sent to the state’s Ministry of Finance, demanding comprehensive details of financial transactions during El-Rufai’s administration, including loans and contract projects awarded. The action comes as the state house of assembly moves for an investigation of the former governor.
Governor Uba Sani highlighted the dire financial situation inherited from the previous administration during a town hall meeting in Kaduna. He revealed the enormity of the debt profile, which hampered the state’s ability to meet its financial obligations, including payment of workers’ salaries.
“We remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development,” Governor Sani emphasized, despite the challenges posed by the significant debt burden.
In response to the revelations, El-Rufai’s son, Bashir, criticized Governor Sani for alleged absenteeism and failure to effectively govern the state. The controversy surrounding the financial situation further escalated with the suspension of Kano APC Women Leader, Maryam Suleiman, who supported El-Rufai and criticized Governor Sani.
