The Super Falcons have received congratulations from FIFA after securing qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, reports The PUNCH. Nigeria’s qualification marks their return to the Olympics for the first time since 2008, achieved by defeating South Africa 1-0 on aggregate in a two-legged encounter.
Randy Waldrum’s team played to a goalless draw at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday. Despite the draw, it was sufficient to secure their qualification, following a 1-0 victory over Banyana Banyana at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja last Friday.
This qualification ends the 16-year wait for the 11-time African champions to participate in the Olympics. FIFA, through their X handle, extended their congratulations to both the Falcons and Zambia. Zambia also secured qualification by overcoming a 2-1 deficit from the first leg at home to beat Morocco 2-0 away and 3-2 on aggregate.
